Interior design with the focus on quality of life
A quiet residential street and a green area with old trees and bodies of water are the immediate surroundings of the Kvarnbacken dementia care home in Nybro. It has been modernised with the focus on the individual needs of the residents.
Architecture and especially interior design are of major importance when converting a traditional nursing home into a good home for citizens with dementia. The Kvarnbacken nursing home in Nybro has therefore undergone extensive renovations, with the result being 48 separate flats, open common areas and a brand new spa area.
All of the flats are now larger in size, brighter and updated to meet modern standards. In each their own way, they have been customised to match the specific resident who will live there. Respect for the individual’s value and past life must underpin all elements of a life at Kvarnbacken – and help ensure the best possible quality of life despite serious illness.
Surroundings that promote tranquillity
At the dementia care home, citizens are invited out of their flats to participate in activities in the bright common areas. The areas are furnished with smaller units which allow for residents to withdraw if the community becomes too overwhelming.
The colour selection of furniture and paintings was restricted to muted tones. The quiet atmosphere is supported by Troldtekt ceilings, which ensure superior acoustics in virtually every room at Kvarnbacken.
