Evocative Japanese restaurant

Gammel Kongevej in the centre of Copenhagen is the location of Izumi – a restaurant whose distinctive exterior hints at the special ambience inside.

Izumi is a chain of four restaurants in Greater Copenhagen. Each of these beautifully decorated eateries offers takeaways as well as dining inside. Izumi is Japanese food with a Nordic twist: a combination of Japanese tapas and sushi.

Likewise, the décor strikes a balance between Japanese and Scandinavian minimalism, with a restricted colour palette, and a focus on texturality and calm surfaces with simple effects. Black is the signature colour, and the furniture is predominantly made of wood.

Clean lines

The pleasantly textured, plastered walls are finished in shades of grey, while the ceilings are clad in black Troldtekt. Troldtekt improves the restaurant’s acoustics, while acting as a calm and unifying element throughout. The elegant, dark wooden floors are expressively styled.

The interior design was created by a team from Pan- Projects of London working with mok architects of Copenhagen. The beautiful veneer walls were designed by Helene Christina Pedersen and made by Indretningsfabrikken. The lighting accentuates the curves and minimalist styling of the veneer wall, adding to the evocative Japanese and Scandinavian ambience.
