Kampai Restaurant
The Kampai is one of Mexico’s best known restaurants at Playa del Carmen, a small town full of night life and fine dining on the Mexican Riviera. It specialises in sushi, seafood and sake.
An important part of any dining experience is to eat in a pleasant, aesthetically pleasing and quiet environment. For designers, this is particularly difficult to achieve given the high noise levels of talking diners, the constant movement of staff and the clatter of plates and cutlery, often exacerbated by the scrape of chairs when the floor is not carpeted.
At Kampai, the attractively designed interior reflects very much the relaxed atmosphere of a beach resort, being furnished with wooden tables and metal chairs coupled with extensive use of wood and stone clad walls and bare flooring. Its colour reflects the bohemian ambience of the area.
Given all these hard surfaces and absence of any sound-absorbing materials, the designers chose to use Troldtekt acoustic panels on the ceiling. This solution means that the resonance of noise and echoes is greatly reduced which creates a much quieter interior, enhanced by the integrated ceiling lights.
Troldtekt ceiling panels are made from certified wood, a 100% natural material, and cement extracted from Danish mineral resources which means that they can provide high sound absorption throughout the restaurant together with the benefits of high durability, natural breathability and low cost life cycle performance.
