The city’s best oasis

Salling has expanded its popular 6th floor roof terrace, which is located on Strøget, Aarhus' main shopping street. The area has now been expanded and includes a ROOFGARDEN and an additional café. 

When you reach the Salling ROOFTOP, the city of Aarhus unfolds before you. You can experience the city up close and look down on Strøget from the skywalk or look out over the city, harbour, woods and bay. Together with this 360-degree experience, you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere on the terraces. The area consists of different levels and zones, all made of wood and with glass panels. There is a stage for concerts and other events, but you can also just take a break or explore the 1,400 sq m ROOFGARDEN on two floors.

Nature and art on the roof

There are now several restaurants on Salling ROOFTOP, serving everything from lunch to ice cream and drinks. In the upper café, the design is inspired by greenhouses with a pitched roof partially in glass. To ensure good acoustics in the service area, white Troldtekt panels were installed, which also provide the space with a textured feel. In the newly-established Væksthuset (greenhouse) on a different level, black Troldtekt was chosen instead, giving the space a degree of intimacy, which is otherwise characterised by glass and hanging plants. On the walls are works depicting the city of Aarhus by local artist Mormor ("Grandma"). The venue can also be booked for private events. Outside Væksthuset there is an outdoor dining area with a view of the harbour. 

Plants and art are a big part of the newest part of Salling ROOFTOP, resulting in the Salling ROOFGARDEN, a true oasis in an otherwise urban city park. Jeppe Hein has created several pieces for the site, stimulating the senses with mirrors or the quirky Sky benches.
