Renovated villa in Broby

Kurt and Lotte Elmer Nielsen have renovated their exclusive lakeside property in Broby on the Danish island of Funen. The result is a unique house where the carefully selected materials and design make a stunning connection between the interior and its natural surroundings.

From the beginning, the Nielsens were adamant that the whole family should feel at home in the house. “We wanted to renovate the house in harmony with its stunning location,” Lotte explains. “However, the open rooms, the wooden floors and the plastered walls together presented an acoustic challenge. It was our architect who suggested this could be overcome if Troldtekt acoustic panels were installed on the ceilings, both because of their acoustic properties and their special look.”

However, the architect and Lotte had a hard time persuading Kurt to go along with the idea. The reason for being initially sceptical about this solution was because Kurt only knew about the cement-bonded wood wool panels which were installed in the production room of his own company.

“In the end, I was convinced by the architect’s arguments about the acoustic properties of the Troldtekt panels and his ideas for the finish,” he recalls. Today, he is thrilled.

“I have been convinced. The acoustics are fantastic and the rustic appearance of the ceilings not only creates coherence inside but ensures a beautiful transition to the surrounding landscape,” says Kurt.

The property was originally built in 1963 in a clearing in the woods. Today, the family is extremely happy to be living in the house and so close to nature, especially in the living room where they can enjoy the views of the lake and the wildlife all year round.
