Back to nature

The sea, woods and wide open spaces are close to the home, which is also built with natural robust materials. The three wings of the house create a courtyard sheltered from the west wind.

The family with roots in Løkken by the North Sea moved back to the region from the big city. According to the family, this is a growing trend, as evidenced by the number of new children in Løkken’s childcare institutions. Nature is the main attraction, and here the traditional detached house garden has been replaced by uncultivated land and views of the woods. The house was built of cedar, which has a beautiful patina, with sedum on the roof, able to withstand the salty air.

The building’s three wings frame a private outdoor space with an elegant, moulded terrace. On one side of the terrace is the annex, storage room and garage, while the opposite side is the home's main living space.

Simple interior

Large sliding doors open up the house and give the sensation of drawing the surroundings into the home. One wing of the house consists of the kitchen and living room. Daylight floods in from three different directions during the course of the day, along with views of the surrounding countryside. The room is beautifully proportioned with a vaulted ceiling.

To ensure the right acoustics, Troldtekt was chosen for the ceilings. V-line 2way in white provides fine lines in both directions, giving the ceiling texture, and the direction follows the row of black spotlights on both ceiling surfaces. The interior is kept simple with white surfaces and a beautiful wooden floor. Wood is also used in the kitchen niche, the window frame of the large picture window and the furniture.

"It was a pleasure working with Stephanie and Mikkel to design their new home. Through close and inspiring collaboration, we have created a home that, in our opinion, harmonises beautifully with the protected natural environment and makes full use of the unique location. It reflects nature outside and in through carefully selected materials. We are incredibly proud of the result and appreciate the trust and enthusiasm that characterised the entire process," says architect Sofie Maj Andersen from Bjerg Arkitektur in Hjørring.
