Sculptural dream house in the woods
The quiet depth of a Danish forest is a beautiful and tranquil place in which to design a home where a key requirement is the ability of being able to withdraw and relax. Having decided to build such a place, this nature-loving Dane embraced his personal project with great enthusiasm.
The first rough sketches from Arkitektladen A/S architects initially showed a white sculpture emerging from the undulating landscape against a backdrop of the woods. The house was then designed to maximise the views of the surrounding landscape, especially the forest.
The entrance is on the ground floor, from where you move up a symmetrical double stairway to the large living area on the floor above. Over the stairs and the hall, daylight floods in through a vast skylight and into the kitchen immediately behind it. Here the expansive living area and kitchen are illuminated with natural light from several angles simultaneously. To the east and west are large windows and balconies which enable the occupants to follow the seasons and enjoy the local fauna and flora outdoors.
Good acoustics and fine contrasts
The sculptural form of the house is mirrored by the exceptionally high ceiling in the dining room and the extra clerestory windows. To ensure good acoustics throughout the entire property, particularly in the kitchen and living room, the architects recommended Troldtekt wood wool panels for the ceiling surfaces. This means that the acoustics are not only improved for everyday living and normal social interaction but also for listening to music being played on the hi-fi system.
The white Troldtekt ceiling panels contrast beautifully with the dark wood floors, the other surfaces and the strips of dark wood. The African slate flooring adds further to the warm and tactile feel of the room.
